Tai Chi: Perfect for all ages

For hundreds of years the art of Tai Chi has been practiced by young and old, and it offers a range of unique benefits for all age groups. Many of our students are in their middle age or senior years and this low-stress exorcise seems to be tailor made for older people. However tai chi can be of great benefit for youngsters too, many of whom have a seemingly endless reservoir of energy.

A study conducted by Maria Hernandez-Reif, Ph.D., Tiffany Field, Ph.D., and Eric Thimas, where a group of children suffering from ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) studied tai chi over a five week period. The participants attended a 30 minute tai chi class, twice a week and partook in a variety of tai chi exorcises such a breathing, movement, weight shifting and balance. The results showed that all thirteen teenagers were less anxious, less emotional and far less hyperactive in the five weeks they studied tai chi and throughout following weeks.

At the opposite and of the scale, tai chi for seniors has shown that those who partake in regular classes are less likely to stumble and fall, thanks to the increased sense of balance that tai chi exorcises give them. Improved balance, posture, breathing, circulation and mobility, not to mention the social aspect of meeting new friends and the personal gains associated with trying new things and partaking in regular exorcise means there’s little reason not to give tai chi a try.

We conduct tai chi classes in Sutton Coldfield, Walsall, Olton, Pelsall sand throughout the West Midlands and all our students feel great benefits from this low impact form of exorcise. Have a look at our tai chi classes page to find a course near you.
